About The Position

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to: Hanging live birds onto the overhead shackle line from the live bird hanging conveyor. The Live Hanger retrieves birds from the conveyor at waist level and hangs the birds on the overhead shackle line. From a standing position, he/she picks up and hangs live birds weighing approximately 6-10 pounds by both legs in shackles shoulder height, 16 inches from the body. Hang birds in accordance with established procedures. The hanger position located at the end of the belt will control the feed rate of the hanging conveyor and the flow of birds. His duties also include transporting DOA’s and dumping them onto the dead bird take-away conveyor. Use of both hands and arms required. Must stand on metal platform for up to 8 hours or more. Must be able to tolerate dark/dusty hot/cold environments.

  • Use of both hands and arms to pick up and hang birds.
  • Use full range of peripheral vision to pick up live birds and hang in shackles.
  • Lift a minimum of 5-10 pounds with repetitive lifting of up to 5-10 pounds.
  • Must be able to keep pace.
  • Must be able to handle weights in excess of 50 pounds, periodically, throughout the night when disposing of DOA birds.
  • Standing 100% of the work shift with breaks.
  • Bending, twisting, stooping, and reaching required to place birds on the line for processing.
  • Willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
