About The Position

The Litigation Paralegal III is a highly skilled and detail-oriented professional who manages a diverse caseload of complex personal injury litigation matters. As a key contributor to the Litigation team, this position plays an integral role in driving case success. The Litigation Paralegal III will oversee all phases of litigation, from case initiation through resolution, ensuring strategic case management and adherence to deadlines. This role requires a high level of independence, sound judgment, and discretion. In addition to case responsibilities, the Litigation Paralegal III will serve as a resource to the broader team, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to other litigation staff.

Requirements

  • In-depth understanding of litigation processes, discovery procedures, and court filing systems.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • A bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies; NC Paralegal Certificate required.
  • An equivalent combination of experience, certification(s), and education will be considered.
  • Have or be willing to obtain NC Notary.
  • Must have eight (8) years of experience in litigation support, with at least five (5) years demonstrated within a personal injury setting as a paralegal.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and time-management capabilities with the ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and manage a high caseload.
  • Demonstrates a high level of reliability and integrity; consistently follows through on commitments and earns trust by being dependable and accountable in all tasks.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of case management.
  • Knowledge of civil procedure in state and federal court, as well as experience with researching local procedures; Must have experience with complex litigation, including medical malpractice, personal injury, or commercial disputes.
  • Proven ability to manage competing deadlines and proactively track case milestones to ensure timely and efficient progress.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, attorneys, and any external parties.
  • Proficient in the use of case management software such as GrowPath as well as other legal tools to enhance case tracking and documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and legal research databases such as Westlaw and LexisNexis.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage 15-30 complex cases and organize all case-related correspondence from clients, courts, and opposing counsel, ensuring timely responses and comprehensive documentation.
  • Calendaring court deadlines, attorney meetings, service and response deadlines, and updating the calendar with hearings, client meetings, depositions, mediation, etc.
  • Oversee the collection, summarization, and maintenance of medical records and bills in preparation for litigation, ensuring all relevant records are organized and accessible.
  • Maintain clear, professional, and proactive communication with clients regarding discovery requests, case updates, and strategic developments.
  • Draft, review, and proofread, correspondence, pleadings, subpoenas, motions, affidavits, notices of deposition, and other legal documents.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in filing legal documents and pleadings with state, federal, trial, and appellate courts, including eFiling. Manage the service of process for legal documents and summonses in compliance with court procedures. Track and review court dockets for any new filings from other parties.
  • Track and manage all litigation deadlines, including discovery timelines, depositions, expert testimony, mediations, hearings, and trial dates, ensuring timely completion.
  • Coordinate and schedule depositions, mediations, and court hearings between clients, associated counsel, and court reporters and videographers.
  • Prepare, respond to, and supplement discovery requests and responses in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring compliance with case-specific needs and timelines.
  • Coordinate scheduling and payment of expert witnesses.
  • Prepare notebooks, witness lists, exhibit lists, and other materials for client meetings, hearings, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trial. Ensure attorneys are well-prepared for the same. Be prepared to attend and assist.
  • Review case files for completeness, identify missing documents, and ensure the accuracy and proper filing of all case-related materials.
  • Effectively train, provide guidance, and coordinate daily tasks to ensure optimal productivity and success of the litigation team.
  • Leverage online resources and other software tools for case investigation and collection of background information as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned by Attorneys.
