About The Position

Thompson Law is seeking a Litigation Attorney for their Houston office to manage a personal injury litigation docket. This role involves taking ownership of cases from filing through resolution, working closely with experienced trial attorneys for mentorship and support. The attorney will be assisted by skilled litigation paralegals, medical records specialists, legal assistants, and closers, allowing them to focus on legal strategy, facts, depositions, and courtroom activities. The firm emphasizes a collaborative environment where attorneys can grow their trial skills and contribute to the firm's success.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • 3–8 years of legal experience, including at least 2 years of active litigation experience.
  • Solid command of Texas civil procedure and evidence.
  • Hands-on experience drafting pleadings and discovery, taking and defending depositions, and arguing motions.
  • Willingness and excitement to try cases.
  • Ability to manage a robust docket of cases, meet deadlines, and keep files trial-ready.
  • Clear and persuasive communication skills (written and verbal) with clients, adjusters, opposing counsel, and judges.
  • Comfortable with legal research databases, case management software, and modern litigation technology, including responsible use of artificial intelligence.
  • A genuine desire to advocate for injured people, maximize their recoveries, and enjoy the work.

Nice To Haves

  • Personal injury litigation experience (plaintiff or defense) strongly preferred.
  • Prior trial experience (first or second chair) is a plus, but not a requirement.
  • Experience with motor vehicle, commercial trucking, or premises liability cases.
  • Familiarity with medical records and injury causation.
  • A record of results you're proud to talk about.
  • Spanish speaking ability.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a docket of personal injury cases in litigation, developing liability, coverage, and damages theories, and moving files toward settlement or trial.
  • Draft pleadings, written discovery, and motions; prepare, take, and defend depositions of parties, fact witnesses, experts, and treating physicians.
  • Understand clients' injuries, treatment, and future care needs by working with medical records specialists and treating providers, and translate this into persuasive damages models.
  • Participate in jury trials (second-chair and first-chair), argue hearings and dispositive motions, and present at mediations.
  • Value cases, prepare demand packages, and negotiate with adjusters and defense counsel to maximize client recovery.
  • Direct and support assigned litigation paralegals and assistants, ensuring excellence, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Serve as a trusted advocate for clients, keeping them informed and advising them on strategy, progress, and settlement/trial decisions.
  • Learn from senior trial attorneys, take on increasing trial responsibility, and contribute to litigation strategies across Texas.
