About The Position

We are looking for a litigation attorney who is eager to build a career doing serious trial work, ready to learn by doing, and motivated to put in the work it takes to become an excellent trial lawyer. The Law Firm for Truck Safety only represents families whose lives have been changed by catastrophic commercial truck crashes. We are a national plaintiffs’ firm with ten offices and growing. Our lawyers help write the standards and try the cases that shape this area of law, recently winning a groundbreaking case in the U.S. Supreme Court. The work is demanding and it matters. Every case is a family, rebuilding after the worst day of their lives, and often our nation’s roads become safer due to our efforts. This role is designed for a lawyer who is committed to excellence. Over time, you will be expected to develop deeper knowledge and responsibility in case strategy, depositions, expert work, negotiation, trial preparation, and courtroom advocacy. Within five years of joining, you will be expected to earn NBTA Board Certification in Truck Accident Law and obtain a commercial driver’s license.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active license (or ability to obtain admission promptly) in Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, or Montana
  • Two to three years of civil litigation experience
  • Plaintiff-side personal injury and/or wrongful death experience preferred
  • Experience with written discovery, deposition discovery, motion practice, legal research, briefing, hearings, and case development
  • Strong legal writing, analytical, organizational, and oral advocacy skills
  • A careful, detail-oriented approach to complex case work
  • Strong client communication skills and the ability to provide clear, compassionate guidance to families experiencing profound loss
  • A genuine interest in trial work, courtroom advocacy, and trucking safety litigation
  • Willingness to travel as cases require

  • Direct trucking litigation experience, on either the plaintiff or defense side

Responsibilities

  • Develop case strategy
  • Draft pleadings and motions
  • Manage discovery
  • Review medical records and crash materials
  • Prepare witnesses
  • Work with experts
  • Communicate with the families we represent
  • Apply the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
  • Analyze trucking safety issues
  • Collaborate with crash reconstructionists, trucking-safety experts, life-care planners, treating physicians, and other specialists
  • Take and defend depositions
  • Participate in negotiations
  • Play a meaningful role in preparing cases for trial
  • Contribute meaningfully to strategy, client communication, expert development, briefing, depositions, and trial preparation
  • Serve as second chair in trials and take on increasing responsibility
  • Develop deeper knowledge and responsibility in case strategy, depositions, expert work, negotiation, trial preparation, and courtroom advocacy
  • Earn NBTA Board Certification in Truck Accident Law within five years
  • Obtain a commercial driver’s license within five years
