About The Position

D.R. Horton, Inc., the largest homebuilder in the U.S., was founded in 1978 and is a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange. It is engaged in the construction and sale of high-quality homes designed principally for the entry-level and first time move-up markets. The Company also provides mortgage financing and title services for homebuyers through its mortgage and title subsidiaries. D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for a Litigation Attorney. The right candidate will support the company’s business objectives, defend and pursue its legal interests.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and current license to practice law is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of litigation experience
  • Ability to negotiate and litigate cases effectively
  • Strong knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective representation and the ability to provide clear and concise business-focused legal advice
  • Proficiency in legal drafting for the preparation of contracts, pleadings, and briefs
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills for case analysis
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team of attorneys
  • Ability to multitask, work independently and carry out important projects with limited oversight
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and a desire for learning new areas of law and regulation in a variety of jurisdictions
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email
  • Ability to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision

Responsibilities

  • Manage litigation matters, including oversight and collaboration with outside counsel
  • Perform initial Case Investigation and Assessment
  • Assist in responding to discovery requests, subpoenas, government inquiries, and regulatory investigations
  • Advise internal stakeholders and senior management on legal risks associated with business activities and proposed courses of action
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the legal team, as well as cross-functional teams across the organization, to achieve strategic objectives, manage legal risks effectively, and effect resolution among all parties
  • Locate and take preliminary statements from witnesses, reviewing documents, client interviews and investigation of relevant events leading up to the dispute
  • Actively drive cases to resolution and participate in mediations and settlement conferences
  • Maintain and update matter management systems, including opening matters, tracking status, managing budgets, and reporting on outcomes
  • Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits required to maintain licensure
  • Maintain current knowledge of legal developments, trends, and best practices relevant to the organization’s business
  • Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
  • Ability to travel overnight
