About The Position

Marks, O’Neill, O’Brien, Doherty & Kelly (“MOODK”) is a mid-sized, regional firm specializing in general liability, professional liability, and toxic tort litigation matters. We are seeking experienced attorneys to join our team in the Tarrytown, NY office. This is a full-time position offering a flexible, collegial, and collaborative environment with meaningful work that can expand professional experience. The role involves counseling clients on a variety of legal issues that are diverse and challenging. The firm has offices located in PA, NJ, NY, DE, and MD. This position can be filled in a remote, hybrid, or onsite capacity.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of litigation experience (Note: The job posting also mentions '10 + years of litigation experience' and 'This position is open to all experience levels' which creates ambiguity. The most specific requirement for the 'experienced role' is 7 years).
  • Current and active NY Bar membership in good standing.
  • Superior written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in LexisNexis/Lexis software.
  • Familiarity with Case/File Management systems.
  • Experience drafting discovery, taking lead on depositions and arguing motions is required.
  • Knowledge of federal and state rules of civil procedures is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • The ability to track billable hours is strongly preferred.
  • Strong preference given to those with a background in General Liability or/and Labor and Employment Law.

Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in all phases of litigation from initiation to expert discovery in matters involving professional liability or labor and employment.
  • Attend court appearances, hearings, depositions and case management conferences.
  • Conduct complex legal research and discovery investigations.
  • Draft discovery requests and responses, motions, case evaluation summaries, court orders, settlement agreements, affidavits, pleadings, motions, and legal memoranda.
  • Review discovery responses, depositions and prepare summaries and litigation update reports.
  • Negotiate with opposing counsel to settle claims.
  • Communicate closely with clients during the course of litigation to provide legal analysis, status reports and advice.
