About The Position

The Springfield JCC has been awarded the Davis Foundation Literacy Grant for the 2026-2027 school year and is seeking a qualified Literacy Specialist for a one-year fellowship. This role is 20 hours per week and is compensated at a rate of $52,000. The Literacy Specialist is responsible for designing and implementing effective educational programs that meet student needs and high standards of excellence. This involves designing instructional frameworks, selecting teaching materials, and analyzing student data. The position also focuses on mentoring teachers, delivering professional development, and evaluating learning outcomes to support classroom and teacher development. The Literacy Specialist will also assist in reviewing externally produced content and resources.

Requirements

  • Must meet the MA EEC minimum hiring requirements for Assistants.
  • At least one (1) year of experience caring for/working with children.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum Design, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Experience with instructional coaching and/or instructional design and assessment development preferred.
  • Certification of EEC T P; T I/T; or higher preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate school-wide literacy programs.
  • Meet regularly with classroom teachers to plan literacy instruction that correlates with individual student needs or as requested by the classroom teacher.
  • Provide support to teachers and offer strategies to improve instruction that will support literacy growth across the curriculum.
  • Assist struggling students to improve their literacy skills.
  • Identify and prioritize areas for improvement by mentoring teachers.
  • Assist with lesson planning.
  • Co-teach in classrooms to ensure successful curriculum implementation.
  • Identify learning gaps and suggest adjustments to instructional approaches.
  • Assist in reviewing externally produced content and resources.
