About The Position

The Literacy Professional Learning Content Developer at Savvas Learning Company conceptualizes, designs, and develops high-quality content for on-site and virtual professional learning workshops, specialized courses, and job-embedded coaching tools aligned to elementary literacy programs in grades Pre-K through 5. Operating under general supervision, this position exists to bridge the gap between educational theory and practical classroom implementation by transforming core literacy frameworks into engaging, accessible multimedia professional development experiences. The incumbent independently manages assigned project lifecycles, collaborates with cross-functional internal teams, and designs internal certification training to elevate teacher efficacy and student learning outcomes.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in elementary literacy instruction (Pre-K–5), including evidence-based reading and writing practices, early language development, and curriculum design.
  • Deep understanding of and ability to apply the Science of Reading, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and culturally and linguistically responsive instructional practices.
  • Expertise in adult learning theory, backward design, and evidence-based instructional design, with demonstrated success creating engaging, impactful professional learning experiences.
  • Proven ability to translate literacy research and instructional theory into practical, actionable professional learning resources, tools, and implementation supports.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage educators, school and district leaders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborative, innovative, and growth-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to seek and apply feedback, iterate on designs, problem solve, and continuously improve learning experiences.
  • Highly organized and adaptable, with strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional quality and attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency with instructional design and collaboration tools, including Articulate 360, PowerPoint, Google Workspace, and AI-enabled productivity tools.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Education, Literacy, Instructional Design, or a closely related field; a Master's degree (MA/MS) with an explicit focus on elementary literacy or curriculum instruction is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of early literacy classroom teaching experience (Grades Pre-K through 5) with a demonstrated mastery of foundational reading and writing instruction.
  • 3 or more years of professional experience in education, instructional design, or corporate training development.
  • 3 or more years of in-district staff development, instructional coaching, or professional learning facilitation experience.
  • Proven experience developing scalable professional learning workshops, interactive courses, and tools tailored for elementary educators.
  • Successful history managing concurrent projects and collaborating effectively with virtual, distributed, and multi-site geographic teams.
  • Ability to sit or stand at a personal computer for a reasonable length of time, typing, reading, and actively participating in virtual meetings on camera where possible.
  • Maintain a safe, effective, quiet, and personal home office environment suitable for professional virtual work, or possess the ability to commute reliably to the local office as required by modern hybrid scheduling models or as required to effectively perform.
  • Demonstrate the ability to handle a high volume of work in a compressed timeframe, manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously, and operate productively in a dynamic corporate environment.
  • Maintain the highest levels of professionalism, composure, and emotional intelligence when interacting with internal stakeholders and external clients.

Responsibilities

  • Design and expand literacy curriculum-based professional learning content: Apply instructional design methodologies to analyze professional learning needs, define clear learning outcomes, and to develop comprehensive, innovative, and effective materials rooted in evidence-based early literacy practices, adult learning theory, and best practices for curriculum-based professional learning.
  • Produce multimedia assets: Create engaging digital content including instructional videos, interactive teaching and learning and coaching simulations, and animations by writing scripts, recording audio, and utilizing authoring tools such as Camtasia, Rise 360, Storyline, Powtoon, Google Vids, Scribe, and H5P.
  • Partner across teams: Collaborate with cross-functional groups including Product Development, Internal Training, Product Management, Sales, Marketing, and Services Delivery to design professional learning that is aligned with Savvas literacy curriculum and related messaging, integrate feedback, and maintain organizational alignment.
  • Facilitate internal training: Design, deliver, and evaluate rigorous internal certification training programs for literacy-focused employees using instructor-led, hybrid, and asynchronous formats.
  • Conduct quality assurance: Perform detailed editorial reviews, usability testing, and accessibility compliance audits to ensure all learning assets meet copyright regulations, data privacy standards, and corporate quality metrics.
  • Manage project lifecycles: Lead multiple concurrent content development projects, including defining timelines, coordinating resources, and providing regular stakeholder updates to ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
  • Refine existing materials: Audit, revise, and maintain current professional learning portfolios to ensure ongoing relevance, accuracy, and alignment with modern educational standards.
