About The Position

SummerCollab co-creates youth programs that energize kids to love learning, play wildly and believe in the power of their unique talents. We envision a world filled with imaginative, confident young people who believe in their unique talents, intelligence and unlimited possibility. Our signature programs, Tyler’s Camp, Literacy Corps and CollabClub, provide new experiences and rich activities designed to narrow learning gaps in low income communities. We focus on cultivating self-worth, self-discovery, and meaningful human connection. Through these programs, kids learn to be vulnerable, persistent and curious while exploring new experiences. A side effect of this work is improved confidence, academic engagement and performance. YOUR ROLE AmeriCorps LitCorps Reading Buddies Corps Members are the drivers of our year-round social emotional support and literacy program. As an AmeriCorps LitCorps Reading Buddy, you will guide students to becoming confident, capable readers through providing small group reading sessions and social-emotional learning lessons at a community-based before and/or after school program..

Requirements

  • All AmeriCorps Member applicants must be at least 17 years of age, and have a commitment to community service.
  • The ideal candidate is proactive, flexible and open to constructive feedback, willing and eager to build upon practices as a mentor and tutor.
  • He/she will demonstrate strengths in communication and relationship building as well as the ability to address challenges quickly and effectively.
  • The ideal candidate has a growth mindset, a strong belief in student-centered learning, and the drive to help program participants become excited about learning!

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate small group literacy lessons with students using our Reading Buddies curriculum
  • Plan and facilitate small group social emotional learning lessons with students using HarmonySEL
  • Track attendance and student performance data
  • Participate in network-wide AmeriCorps meetings
  • Lead, inspire, and instruct assigned students
  • Facilitate literacy assessments and analyze results to appropriately target instruction
  • Complete training and professional development
  • Serve a minimum of 300 service hours (including off-site service, training, and fundraising) during the Summer of 2025.

Benefits

  • LitCorps Reading Buddies AmeriCorps Members complete 300 hours of service and receive a $4,500 living stipend over the course of their service and a Segal Education Award upon satisfactory completion of 300 service hours of $1,565.08.
