About The Position

The Liquids Terminal Operator 1 is responsible for the safe, efficient, and smooth operation of various terminal functions, including truck unloading/loading, maintaining terminal cleanliness, assisting with dock and tank farm operations, and adhering to safety protocols. The operator will also apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills, contribute to routine operational tasks, and engage in ongoing training to develop skills.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • A High School diploma or GES is required.
  • Ability to learn quickly and to work as part of a team
  • Valid TWIC card
  • Must possess and maintain and valid US Drivers license.
  • Must pass all pre-employment testing including a drug test, physical, and background check
  • Basic mathematical ability and understanding is required to successfully perform tank measurements, read gauges, set up product transfers into and out of tanks. This includes the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, convert fractions to decimals and vice versa.

  • 1+ years of experience in similar setting is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Strictly follow all terminal and safety policies and procedures, including hazard identification and risk management.
  • Perform regular safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with operational and environmental safety standards.
  • Participate in regular safety training, operations training, shift change and drills.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure its proper use by others in the workplace.
  • Report safety hazards, near-misses, and incidents immediately.
  • Safely and efficiently unload and load trucks, ensuring compliance with operational procedures.
  • Inspect trucks, product documentation, and materials for accuracy, integrity, and safety.
  • Operate terminal equipment (e.g., pumps, valves, hoses) to transfer materials to and from trucks while adhering to safe handling practices.
  • Ensure trucks are properly sealed and secure before departing.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe terminal environment, including the dock areas, loading zones, and equipment.
  • Perform regular cleaning of work areas, equipment, and common spaces.
  • Address spills or other cleanliness concerns immediately to prevent accidents or contamination.
  • Identify potential problems before they become major issues and take preventive measures.
  • Troubleshoot minor operational issues (e.g., equipment malfunctions, procedural discrepancies) and resolve them independently or escalate as needed.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and coworkers to address recurring issues or inefficiencies in terminal operations.
  • Analyze terminal operations to identify inefficiencies and propose improvements.
  • Use critical thinking to assess risks and make informed, quick decisions when faced with operational challenges or emergencies.
  • Evaluate the impacts of operational changes and adapt strategies as needed.
  • Provide support to the dock operations, including helping with the loading and unloading of goods, coordinating with drivers, and managing inventory.
  • Assist with maintaining the flow of materials between docks, storage areas, and processing points.
  • Ensure dock operations run smoothly, with minimal disruptions.
  • Support tank farm operations, such as monitoring tank levels, assisting with product transfers, and ensuring proper equipment function.
  • Regularly inspect tanks and associated infrastructure to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Assist in maintaining proper product flow between tanks and unloading/loading stations.
  • Participate in mandatory and voluntary training sessions to enhance operational knowledge, safety practices, and technical skills.
  • Stay updated on industry standards and best practices for terminal operations.
  • Actively seek opportunities to cross-train in various terminal roles (e.g., dock, tank farm, loading/unloading).
  • Complete daily routine tasks to ensure smooth terminal operations, including routine checks, cleaning, equipment inspections, and record-keeping.
  • Monitor inventory, verify equipment functionality, and report any maintenance issues promptly.
  • Assist with general housekeeping tasks to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
