About The Position

Colonial Terminals, Inc. (CTI) is an industry leader in handling and storing liquid and dry bulk products. They own and operate the largest, independent, liquid and dry bulk storage facilities with breakbulk capability in the Southeastern United States. CTI is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Colonial Group, Inc. The Terminal Operator role involves daily operational duties such as manual loading and unloading of tank-cars, tank-trucks, ocean-going vessels, tank-to-tank transfers, and blending operations. Operators are expected to monitor products for quality, manually operate valves, check storage capacity, install/remove equipment, provide accurate reports, inspect equipment, monitor self-loading racks, troubleshoot, communicate issues to management, perform light maintenance and housekeeping, and consistently maintain a high regard for safety.

Requirements

  • Must pass and maintain all applicable Operator Qualification requirements.
  • Advancement from one step level to the next is based on minimum time requirements, as well as meeting and maintaining satisfactory job performance standards.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Working knowledge of piping, valves, and tanks.
  • Experience with storage tank operations, including SCADA, tank gauging, and loading/unloading equipment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, etc. for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work under close supervision (for Operator Level 1).
  • Ability to perform basic job duties without supervision (for Operator Level 2).
  • At least two years performing satisfactorily at Level 2 or equivalent experience (for Operator Level 3).
  • Provides self-direction (for Operator Level 3).
  • Has shown continuous improvement in ability to perform duties, troubleshoots problems, demonstrates leadership skills, promotes teamwork, contributes ideas and recommendations for generating and implementing new ideas/procedures/processes and serves as a trainer or mentor for less experienced Operators (for Operator Level 3).
  • At least three years performing satisfactorily at Level 3 or equivalent experience (for Operator Level 4).
  • Has maintained a consistent and high level of performance by meeting or exceeding all job performance standards and expectations (for Operator Level 4).
  • Is considered a 'subject matter expert' in regards to the Operator position (for Operator Level 4).
  • Has the ability to work independently and use sound judgment, as well as the ability to work in a team and promote cooperation (for Operator Level 4).
  • Sets a positive example for all and represents Colonial Terminals in a professional manner at all times (for Operator Level 4).
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training and/or College experience.
  • Prior experience requiring mechanical aptitude and skill.
  • Experience with light maintenance (mechanical, electric, electronic).

Responsibilities

  • Manual loading and unloading of tank-cars, tank-trucks, ocean-going vessels, tank-to-tank transfers, and blending operations.
  • Monitor products for quality as required.
  • Manually operate valves on tanks and/or pumps.
  • Open/close tank fill line valves prior to and after each delivery on storage tanks, which may involve either manually operated or motorized equipment.
  • Check above ground tanks for storage capacity by manually gauging and/or reading automated tank level gauging systems.
  • Maintain an inquisitive attitude and ask questions to ensure operational procedures are adhered to; operating risks are minimized; and skill level is developed.
  • Calculate/monitor storage capacity on tankage.
  • Install or remove man-ways, blind-flanges, portable hoses, pipe, and pumps as required.
  • Consistently provide accurate, legible, and timely input of product transfer activities and reports.
  • Visually inspect tanks, pumping and receiving equipment and loading racks (where applicable) during shift in order to identify any operational problems, completes associated shift documentation for such.
  • Monitor self-loading rack operations, and train/qualify drivers to use terminal loading/unloading equipment.
  • Weigh or meter tank-trucks in and out as directed; accurately type and check meter tickets for products and prepares bill of ladings to ensure driver has correct paperwork upon completion.
  • Perform troubleshooting of loading racks, pumps, and motors.
  • Provide timely and consistent communication/notification to management of equipment abnormalities or failures, operating inconsistencies, errors and/or product quality issues.
  • Perform duties such as painting of piping, tanks, and buildings with hand equipment; weed control and landscaping functions; housekeeping activities.
  • Consistently maintain and demonstrate a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Participate in special projects and other assignments as requested by management.
