About The Position

ASRC Federal System Solutions LLC, a subsidiary of ASRC Federal, is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to join their team at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory at Blossom Point Tracking Facility (BPTF) in Welcome, MD. This is a part-time position not to exceed 30 hours per week. The System Administrator position will join a team performing IT administration and support of a LAN/WAN environment which provides services on Linux, Unix, Windows, Cisco and other network and peripheral systems to support BPTF’s mission and administrative network activities. The successful candidate will provide Linux Server and Desktop support, maintenance of network devices, services and applications, as well as user support, diagnostics and troubleshooting. Fundamental knowledge of supporting network devices such as firewalls, switches, modems, and routers is desired. The successful candidate will also possess experience supporting Linux related software, protocols, client/server environments, VM, and remote access. Demonstrated experience should include diagnosing, troubleshooting and correcting problems with LAN/WAN services in order to install, configure, maintain and upgrade software on network systems. Strong understanding of network and system security is required. Familiarity with DISA STIGS, NIST guidelines, DoD Accreditation and Common Criteria, and DISA recommended best practices is desirable.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, or similar field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience is required.
  • CompTIA Security + Certification is required
  • Must have experience with Linux servers and Workstation administration.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills required.
  • Familiarity with Ansible solutions, VMs, NetApp, and RMF requirements
  • Must have at least an interim Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Fundamental knowledge of supporting network devices such as firewalls, switches, modems, and routers is desired.
  • Familiarity with DISA STIGS, NIST guidelines, DoD Accreditation and Common Criteria, and DISA recommended best practices is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, configuration and deployment of RedHat enclaves, servers, and desktops
  • Configuration of VMs, network hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc.
  • Maintenance of system configuration requirements and operating systems to established standards and requirements
  • RMF related patching and application of STIGs
  • Periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
  • Research and recommend innovative methods and techniques to improve the network
  • Leverage and implement automated approaches for systems administration tasks.
  • Daily system monitoring to verify the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, system and key processes, system and application logs and verification of completion of scheduled jobs including backups
  • User account maintenance as required
  • Support for User/Operator requests for assistance
  • Recovery from hardware and software failures per recovery plans, and coordination and communication with affected users in a timely manner
  • Application of operating system and application patches and upgrades on a regular basis per DoD and project guidance
  • Configure/add new services as necessary and as defined by project guidance
  • Maintain all DoD and project operational configurations and procedures as defined
