The ITSG Research and Instructional Support team provides systems administration related to data center management, server hardware, server operating systems, server applications installations and configurations, network infrastructure, computing resources in a complex environment comprising of Linux and Windows Servers, and VMware virtualization platform, across multiple buildings and business units. This role is responsible for administering systems infrastructure, core server applications, and networking and securities. Duties and activities include: Participate and develop ITSG & CIT hosted infrastructure environments. Maintain and enhance existing units’ infrastructure in multiple buildings and units. Implement infrastructure solutions in accordance to University Policy 5.10, Information Security. Implement procedures for system administration to ensure stability and reliability. Provide Linux and Windows servers and VMware system administration support for the major hardware and software platforms in use. This includes such activities as systems and server applications installation and configurations; managing account provisioning systems, software distribution, backup, and systems monitoring; identifying and fixing bugs, security holes, and problems with systems software. Respond to software, hardware and network emergencies as required. Provide backup support for mission-critical systems housed in the data centers, including installations and decommissions of servers and network hardware in the data centers. Provide support for integrated user authentication, file access, printing, database solutions, calendaring, and other server systems between different platforms. Propose and plan projects to allow the facility. Implement and manage account provisioning systems in the ITSG infrastructure, research, and instructional systems. Consult and interface with user community to identify and deliver efficient and appropriate use of IT resources. 65% Networking and Security Provide systems programming and device configuration support for Linux servers and related networking issues. Provide support for networking, network routing, and network information services including network naming services, VPNs, and network management and monitoring. Participate in the implementation of ITSG networks, firewall rule, VPN, and infrastructure solutions in accordance to University Policy 5.10, Information Security. Participate in the design of future ITSG networking system design. Assist in systems security audit information from various units. 25% Other position-related responsibilities Participate in projects with occasional work responsibility falling above or below current classification. Provide consulting and support to members as needed. 10%
