About The Position

Peraton is seeking a mid-level Linux Systems Administrator to support NASA’s Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract. This position is located at the NASA White Sands Complex (WSC) in Las Cruces, NM. Peraton is the prime contractor for NASA at the White Sands Complex (WSC) near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Operating here are two functionally identical satellite ground terminals: The White Sands Ground Terminal, and the Second TDRSS Ground Terminal. These ground terminals ensure uninterrupted communications between various ground stations, NASA’s orbiting fleet of Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRS), customer spacecraft (satellites), and the computer systems that support such spacecraft. WSC serves as an interface for distributing satellite data to control centers and scientists who then use the daily influx of data to expand our ever-growing knowledge of the Earth and the universe.

Requirements

  • Education/Experience - degree required in engineering, computer science, information technology or other related technical discipline and directly related experience Information Security and/or IT infrastructure as follows: BS/BA degree and 3 years’ experience, or AS/AA and 6 years’ experience. In lieu of degree, 8+ years of directly related experience is allowable.
  • 3+ years of experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Oracle Linux systems.
  • Experience working with cyber (IT) security concepts.
  • Networking: TCP/IP fundamentals, routing, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, NTP, firewall configuration
  • Experience deploying and managing virtual machines and hypervisors such as VMware and KVM, as well as container platforms like Docker.
  • Scripting & automation: Proficiency in Bash; experience with Python and Perl.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining configuration management solutions with Ansible.
  • Working experience with systems management and patching tools such as PDQ and BigFix.
  • Experience implementing or maintaining local Linux Repositories servers.
  • Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance and to maintain the clearance thereafter.
  • You must be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
  • Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite.

Nice To Haves

  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Prior NASA experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing smartcard login on Linux systems.
  • Strong understanding of SSL/TLS certification management and implementation.
  • Familiarity with HP-UX, Solaris, or OpenVMS OS’s a plus.
  • Familiarity with Tenable Nessus tools.
  • Hands-on experience with log management, monitoring, and analysis using Splunk.
  • Security+ or similar security related certification.

Responsibilities

  • Install, integrate, patch, and maintain Linux servers and workstations, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Oracle Linux.
  • Provide systems engineering technical support across the SENSE organization, technical working groups, peer reviews, technical interchange meetings, and periodic status coordination meetings.
  • Troubleshoot system anomalies and discrepancies that have been elevated for resolution.
  • Capture system installations and modifications within change management documentation and/or ticketing system.
  • Implement automation for provisioning, patching, and configuration.
  • Track, create and/or implement remediation solutions for vulnerability and compliance findings reported by the IT Security team.
  • Perform system backup and recovery actions for assigned systems.
  • Plan and develop system upgrade strategies for End of Life or End of Support systems.
