About The Position

This is skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of communication lines, electrical lines and related equipment. Incumbent installs, maintains and repairs traffic and pedestrian fixtures, push buttons, park lamps, island lights, illuminating signs, loop detectors, communication and video cable networks. Some work is performed in the immediate area of primary circuits, trolley feeders, and other high voltage wiring.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.).
  • One year of experience in the repair or maintenance of electrical or communications systems.
  • Possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter.
  • Within 90 days of appointment obtain an Ohio Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP).
  • Within 150 days of appointment, must obtain and maintain a valid Ohio Class A Commercial Driver's License (C.D.L.), including the qualification to operate a vehicle with air brakes and any other endorsements required by the State of Ohio.
  • Out of state residents must have equivalent licenses from their state of residence within the prescribed 150 days of appointment.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials and tools used on communication and power line construction and maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of the elementary principles of electric theory as applied to communication and electric transmission lines.
  • Knowledge of the safety precautions practiced in electric and communication line construction and maintenance work.
  • Ability to learn and observe proper safety precautions.
  • Good physical condition and health sufficient to perform tasks requiring strength and agility at heights and under varying weather conditions.
  • Pass a job-related medical examination.
  • Provide documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity.
  • Pass a background investigation.
  • Pass a drug screen.
  • Pass a nicotine screening.
  • Remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment (does not apply to current City employees).
