About The Position

Join Auburn University Facilities Management's Electrical Distribution department and help keep our campus powered and running smoothly. In this role, you will assist with the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and protection of Auburn University's primary electrical distribution system. Working alongside experienced utility professionals, you'll support critical infrastructure including substations, transformers, switches, protective relays, metering systems, and traffic control equipment. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience while contributing to the safe, reliable delivery of electrical services that support the university community every day.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years of experience in electrical work involving operation, maintenance, and/or modification in a commercial, utility, or industrial setting.
  • Valid Driver's License - Upon Hire.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brakes - Within 90 days of Hire.
  • CPR certification - Within 90 days of Hire.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years of progressively complex experience in electrical work involving operation, maintenance, and/or modification in a commercial, utility, or industrial setting. Must include 3 years at the previous level or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License - Upon Hire.
  • Lineman Apprenticeship Certification from TVPPA or equivalent program approved by Auburn University Utilities & Energy department - Upon Hire.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brakes - Within 90 days of Hire.
  • CPR certification - Within 90 days of Hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Technology is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the routine installation, maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical distribution system equipment. Performs work in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Assists with responding to and resolving unplanned electrical system outages. Performs tasks and restores power in a safe and timely manner to minimize campus disruptions.
  • Installs, maintains, and validates electrical metering devices to ensure proper data collection for energy management, electrical engineering designs, and the accurate billing of utility charges.
  • Assists with conducting written switching orders. Assists management and design engineers in maintaining accurate and complete design configuration documents, design standard documents, and system performance records.
  • Monitors status of distribution system using data from the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and other electronic systems. Identifies problems and reports to supervision.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs lighting on university streets, parking lots, and fields to promote a safer environment on Auburn University's campus.
  • Assists with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of university traffic signal equipment. May assist in coordinating efforts to ensure the proper flow of traffic while systems are under repair.
  • Responsible for meeting and maintaining training and certification requirements as outlined by the department's training and credentialing requirements.
  • Installs, maintains, operates, and repairs electrical distribution system equipment. Performs work in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Responds to and resolves unplanned electrical system outages. Performs troubleshooting and restores power in a safe and timely manner to minimize campus disruptions.
  • Writes, reviews, and conducts switching orders for system operation needs.
  • Monitors status of the distribution system using data from the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and other electronic systems. Identifies problems and develops solutions with supervision oversight.
  • Assists management and design engineers in maintaining accurate and complete design configuration documents, design standard documents, and system performance records.
  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair university traffic signal equipment. Assists in coordination efforts with applicable parties to ensure the proper flow of traffic while systems are under repair.
