About The Position

To demonstrate the skills necessary to construct and maintain the electric distribution system by providing high quality electric service to all customers. This role requires a high school graduate with advanced trade knowledge equivalent to one or more years of apprenticeship. Previous work experience as a lineman or a certificate in electric power distribution or electrical power technology from a technical school fulfills this requirement. A minimum of one year of experience in construction and maintenance of electric utility system or other related fields is preferred. The position requires general knowledge of all operational aspects of electrical transmission and distribution systems within a reasonable time span. The individual must become familiar with the Company Safety Manual, Construction Specifications, Approved List of Materials, National Electric Safety Code, OSHA Rules and Regulations, and the National Electric Code within a reasonable time span. The role demands a basic understanding of the construction and operation of an electrical distribution system and the ability to learn and apply construction standards. Strong teamwork, organizing, planning, and following directions are essential for crew efficiency. Customer service skills, along with good writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills, are also required. A good math aptitude is necessary. The individual will be required to complete the Midwest Energy Apprentice Lineman Program and must demonstrate the aptitude and ability to pass all Company certification requirement tests. Experience in the use of personal computers is preferred (working knowledge of Word and Excel applications). A valid Kansas Driver’s License (CDL Class A) is required. For the Student role, a high school diploma is required, and post-secondary education in a related field is preferred. Within six months, the student must obtain a Company climbing certificate and acquire a Commercial Driver’s License Class A with a medical card. The student must be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of the construction and operation of an electrical distribution system and the ability to learn and apply construction standards.
