The Class A Lineman Transmission is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This position works at various locations and may be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. The role involves working safely on energized and de-energized transmission systems, stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, and troubleshooting problems. A significant aspect of the job includes working with energized high voltage systems, requiring skill and care to ensure safety. The position also entails maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools, and performing other related duties as required. The Lineman must be able to work outdoors, often in inclement weather, and perform rigorous physical labor. They need to be proficient in various aspects of transmission line work, including understanding and reading blueprints, hot stick work, bare hand work, pole/tower climbing, heavy lifting and rigging, and operating a digger derrick. Familiarity with induced voltage, grounding procedures, working at heights and in confined spaces, and proper use of PPE and cover-up are also essential. The role requires understanding how to phase out a line, minimum approach distances, flag and tag procedures, and performing basic bucket rescues. Effective pre-job briefings and safe execution of reconductoring jobs and jumper installations are also key responsibilities. The ability to inspect rubber goods and PPE is crucial.
