The Class A Lineman Transmission is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This position works at various locations and may be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. The role involves working safely on energized and de-energized transmission systems, stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, and troubleshooting transmission system problems. A significant aspect of the job involves working with energized high voltage systems, requiring skill and care to ensure safety. The position also includes maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools, and performing other related duties as needed. The Lineman must be able to work outdoors, often in inclement weather, and perform rigorous physical labor. They must be able to identify transmission primary and secondary voltages, understand and read blueprints, and proficiently perform various transmission line tasks including hot stick work, bare hand work, pole/tower climbing, heavy lifting, rigging, and operating equipment like digger derricks. Familiarity with induced voltage, grounding procedures, working at heights, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and cover-up is essential. The role also requires understanding how to phase out a line, obtain a one-shot on a recloser, understand minimum approach distances, and follow flag and tag procedures. Basic bucket rescue/escape, conducting pre-job briefings, performing reconductoring jobs, and installing/removing mechanical jumpers are also part of the responsibilities. A key aspect is the ability to properly inspect rubber goods, cover, and PPE.
