About The Position

Xcel Energy is hiring an experienced Distribution Journeyman Lineman Serviceman in Hereford, Texas. The role performs a variety of overhead and underground electric distribution and transmission construction, operations, and maintenance work. Primary duties include installing, maintaining, and removing overhead and underground distribution conductors and equipment. The position requires climbing poles, working on energized conductors and equipment, performing hot-stick work on energized high-voltage conductors, working in inclement weather, and being available for scheduled emergency callouts. The successful candidate is self-motivated, works well with others, maintains a positive attitude, and is committed to safety, quality customer service, customer satisfaction, and productive work. A well-rounded knowledge of distribution primary feeders, transformer loading, and fusing practices is important, along with familiarity with company safety regulations and distribution-service hazards. The employee must reside within 20 miles of the Hereford, Texas service center. The position may require travel for extended periods.

Requirements

Successfully score on the Journeyman Assessment.
Complete an approved apprentice line program or have five years of progressive electric lineman experience.
Have a Class A CDL.
Be capable of performing all aspects of electric distribution overhead and underground construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Be available for emergency callouts according to a schedule.
Have effective verbal and written communication skills.
Be physically fit, able to lift up to 90 pounds, pass a physical examination, and perform strenuous physical labor under all types of conditions.
Have experience with bucket trucks, digger derricks, trenchers, and groundwork with a utility line crew.
Maintain a high awareness of safety and comply with company safety rules at all times.
Reside within 20 miles of the Hereford, Texas service center.
Pass the Xcel Energy security and drug screening.
Be able to travel for extended periods if required.

Well-rounded knowledge of distribution primary feeders, transformer loading, and fusing practices, including meter sets and connections; hot-line tools; protective devices; fuses; lightning arresters; disconnect switches; breakers; grounding sets; transformers and their connections; and troubleshooting.
