About The Position

Xcel Energy is hiring an experienced Distribution Journeyman Lineman Serviceman for its Hereford, Texas location. The role performs a variety of overhead and underground electric distribution and transmission construction, operations, and maintenance activities. Primary duties include installing, maintaining, and removing overhead and underground distribution conductors and equipment. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, work effectively with others, maintain a positive attitude, and demonstrate a commitment to safe, productive work and quality customer service. The job requires familiarity with company safety regulations and the hazards of distribution service work, along with the ability to climb poles, work on energized conductors and equipment, perform hot-stick work on energized high-voltage conductors, and work in inclement weather. The employee must be available for scheduled emergency callouts and may need to travel for extended periods. The anticipated starting base pay is $53.85 per hour. The position is covered by a bargaining agreement.

Requirements

Successfully score on the Journeyman Assessment.
Complete an approved apprentice line program or have five years of progressive electric lineman experience.
Have a Class A CDL.
Be capable of performing all aspects of electric distribution overhead and underground construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Be available for emergency callouts as scheduled.
Have effective verbal and written communication skills.
Be physically fit, able to lift up to 90 pounds, pass a physical examination, and perform strenuous physical labor under all types of conditions.
Have experience with bucket trucks, digger derricks, trenchers, and groundwork with a utility line crew.
Maintain high safety awareness and comply with company safety rules at all times.
Reside within 20 miles of the Hereford, Texas service center.
Pass Xcel Energy security and drug screening.
Be able to work in inclement weather and perform pole-climbing and energized-line work.

Nice To Haves

Well-rounded knowledge of distribution primary feeders, transformer loading, and fusing practices, including meter sets and connections, hot-line tools, protective devices, fuses, lightning arresters, disconnect switches, breakers, grounding sets, transformers and connections, and troubleshooting.
