About The Position

This position is responsible for continuing the flow of finished product from the retorts and/or hydro to the packing area. The role involves verifying machine setup, reviewing the production schedule, and bringing full retort baskets for unloading. The Line Unloader will inspect finished product for quality issues such as image, odor, color, and chunks, and identify any sticking to the can. They will also pull sample products for the lab and supervisors, identify hold tags and change-overs, and remove defected products (dented, leaking, or with illegible codes) from the system. Communication with the Retort Operator, Tray Packers, and supervisors is essential, as is ensuring baskets cycle to the loader and verifying the condition of suction cups. The role also includes performing weekly sanitation and completing all required paperwork. Additionally, the Line Unloader participates as a member of the team, contributing to ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies. They are expected to be familiar with Simmons’ operating systems and their role in supporting them, communicating concerns and improvement ideas. Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write and understand English.
  • Experienced within a manufacturing/process environment with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Background in manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies that the machine is set up properly.
  • Reviews production schedule.
  • Brings a full retort basket into the Unloader for unloading.
  • View finished product, checking for image, odor, color, chunks, and if it is sticking to the can.
  • Pull sample product for the lab and supervisors.
  • Identify any hold tags and any change-overs.
  • Watch for product defects such as dented or leaking products; pull defected products out of the system at the unloader.
  • Looks for products with no codes or illegible codes.
  • Communicates with the Retort Operator, Tray Packers and supervisors.
  • Ensures baskets cycle to the loader.
  • Verify that all suction cups are in good operating condition.
  • Perform weekly sanitation.
  • Complete all required paperwork.
  • Participates as a member of the Team.
  • Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies.
  • Coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members.
  • Attends appropriate team meetings.
  • Fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues.
  • Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues.
