About The Position

Constructs, dismantles, maintains, replaces, and repairs electric lines, stations, substations, and other properties as required. This role involves working with live line maintenance tools and adhering to safety rules, operating practices, and codes related to all phases of line work. The position also includes responsibilities such as maintaining line clearances, trimming trees, and potentially leading and assisting in training others.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of line technician apprenticeship.
  • Satisfactory passage of line technician examination.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License prior to the end of trial period.
  • Subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements under 49 CFR Part 40 and FMCSA regulations (Part 382).
  • Good reading comprehension and mathematics skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to do ordinary line construction, operating and maintenance work, line troubleshooting, and transformer installation including three-phase and parallel banking.
  • Reasonable knowledge of work order procedure and allocation of charges.
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the State Electrical Code and company standards for line construction.
  • Familiarity with live line maintenance tools and their use.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Company Safety Rules and Operating Practices relating to line construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely, make understandable diagrams, and express oneself orally.
  • The ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
  • Sensitivity to public opinion and property owner's rights.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Sets, guys, and frames poles, towers, and other structures.
  • Installs, splices, and secures conductors.
  • Installs and maintains transformers, conductors, regulators, breakers, switches, fuses, street lighting equipment, and lightning arrestors (overhead and underground).
  • Works on energized lines and equipment.
  • Works with live line maintenance tools.
  • Keeps informed on and abides by the required Safety Rules, Operating Practices, and codes pertaining to all phases of line work.
  • Maintains proper line clearances.
  • Trims trees.
  • May lead and assist in training others in the same or lower classifications.
  • Performs other duties which are similar, related, or incidental to this position.
