About The Position

This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and adjusting valve seat insert compacting presses and furnaces. The role involves performing visual and dimensional inspections at the compacting and sintering operations to ensure product quality and adherence to customer and company standards. The operator must comply with all safety, environmental, and quality policies, read production schedules, monitor product specifications using various inspection equipment, and analyze scrap data. Key responsibilities include setting up, starting, shutting down, monitoring, and operating compacting presses, installing and removing tooling, making press adjustments, performing first piece inspections, ensuring correct furnace settings, operating hoists and jacks, loading/unloading containers, assisting operators, distributing powder, monitoring furnace temperatures and atmosphere, troubleshooting equipment, and performing general cleaning and maintenance. Overtime may be required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • Minimum of one year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates and ratios.
  • Knowledge of the metric system.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Highly motivated with ability to work independently, yet be an effective team player.
  • Above average mechanical ability.

Responsibilities

  • Setup, operate, and adjust valve seat insert compacting presses and furnace.
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspection at compacting and sintering operations.
  • Create a quality product and participate in training to ensure customer requirements and company standards are met.
  • Comply with legal and other requirements to avoid injury and/or illness.
  • Identify potential emergency situations and report all incidents to supervisor/manager.
  • Adhere to facility’s quality, environmental, health and safety policies.
  • Read routers and production schedules for product specifications.
  • Record information for inspection and production using various forms, logs, and computer systems.
  • Monitor product specifications using inspection equipment such as micrometer, digital indicators, scales, hardness tester, optical comparators, digital controllers, flow gages, and visual aids.
  • Verify equipment settings including press settings, feeds and speeds, temperatures, cycle times, and pressure settings.
  • Utilize statistical data to determine conforming product and analyze scrap/nonconforming parts.
  • Setup, start, shut down, monitor, and operate all types of Valve Seat Insert compacting presses.
  • Install and remove tooling from compacting presses.
  • Make adjustments to cams, fill, ram, underfill, stops, and core rod to optimize production.
  • Complete first piece inspection and monitor press to assure conformance.
  • Assure furnace settings are correct.
  • Operate overhead hoists and hand jacks.
  • Load and unload various types of containers.
  • Assist operators in making adjustments as required.
  • Make adjustments to automation equipment as required.
  • Distribute powder into proper powder hoppers and to the proper press lines.
  • Monitor furnace temperatures, atmosphere, and belt speed for the sintering process.
  • Read, interpret, and follow all safety rules and regulations.
  • Troubleshoot and perform appropriate maintenance of equipment by observation and general cleaning.
  • Be alert to problems regarding equipment, tooling, and production quality.
  • Perform overtime as required.
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor/management.
