About The Position

The Line Operator is responsible for performing all work safely and in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards and Bay State Milling Company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). This role involves maintaining a clean work area, adjusting packing machinery, performing metal detector checks, operating the labeler, ensuring proper bag weight, keeping accurate records, performing minor maintenance on machines, and communicating with supervision about packing demands. The position may also require driving a forklift, hand stacking product, and performing daily sanitation duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Good PC, math, writing, and reading skills.
  • Ability to become certified in the operation of warehouse equipment, including forklift.
  • Ability to Speak, Read, Write, and Comprehend instructions and documentation in the English Language.
  • Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts such as: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, and proportions in all units of measure used in practical situations.
  • Ability to define and solve practical problems.
  • Ability to collect and record data.
  • Ability to establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables simultaneously in standardized situations.
  • Must be able to work in an environment which has extremes in temperature.
  • Must be able to climb ladders.
  • Must have physical dexterity to perform basic repair functions.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all work safely and in accordance with all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards and Bay State Milling Company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Keeps work areas clean to ensure a sanitary and safe environment.
  • Acquires the proper bags for filling from the warehouse.
  • Adjusts packing machinery for proper weight, size, and type of bag.
  • Performs metal detector checks in accordance with the HACCP Program.
  • Operates the labeler to ensure correct labeling of the package in accordance with SOP’s.
  • Assures that bags are proper weight by check weighing.
  • Keeps accurate records of bags packed and checks weights.
  • Does minor maintenance on packing and sealing machines.
  • Keeps supervision informed of problems and progress of packing demands.
  • May be required to drive a forklift as needed in a safe and efficient manner to ensure the optimum performance for the Packing & Loading Department.
  • Hand stacks product as needed.
  • Performs daily sanitation duties and assigned tasks as specified in the master cleaning schedule.
