The culture is rooted in shared core values and shaped by innovative, dedicated, and engaged professionals. This specific role is for a Line Locator in the Line Locating Department. The starting rate of pay is $33.85 per hour. The position involves locating underground facilities, conducting preliminary dig-in investigations, and reading/identifying symbols on system maps. Candidates will undergo a two-part testing procedure: a written exam followed by a behavioral-based interview. A study outline is provided to prepare for both the computer test and the interview, which focuses on core competencies and past behavior as a predictor of future performance.

Requirements

  • Two years of recent experience locating underground utilities (must have located within the last 6 months)
  • Ability to learn to locate and identify underground electrical utility wires using electrical utility maps and special electronic locator equipment
  • Possess a valid, up-to-date driver’s license
  • Ability to learn to read blueprints, facility maps, or engineering drawings to assist in locating buried lines
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and lift for extended periods of time
  • Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to distinguish between secondary and primary voltages.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness and responsibility to the Company and its customers.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work under high stress and tight time demands.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Company practices, equipment, and techniques related to locating underground power.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to equipment operation.
  • Possess necessary skill level to operate sensitive electronic locator equipment.
  • Organizational skill and ability to keep records related to the work.
  • Proper use and care of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must possess a Valid Arizona Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Locates underground facilities, makes preliminary dig-in investigations, reads and identifies symbols on system maps.
  • Locate and identify underground wires using maps and special electronic locator equipment.
  • Reads blueprints, facility maps, or engineering drawings to assist in locating buried lines.
  • Responds to Arizona811 requests by driving to sites and locating lines.
  • Interprets requests from Arizona811 and questions the requestor as needed to obtain complete information.
  • Determines where locates are, thereby ensuring protection of utilities.
  • Provides follow-up as needed.
  • Communicates relevant information to excavation personnel or other appropriate authorities.
  • Maintain accurate records of work time and client identities to allow proper assignment of charge codes.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
  • Perform assigned work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Company practices and procedures.
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
