About The Position

Summit Utilities, Inc. is hiring a Line Locator based in Hope, Arkansas. The role identifies, maps, locates, and marks underground facilities using mapping programs, electronic detection equipment, and utility maps while coordinating with contractors. It also assists in assessing locations that may need repair, modification, or expansion, while following industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures.

The Line Locator supports safe excavation by locating and marking underground distribution facilities, communicating with contractors and internal personnel, and helping reduce facility damage. The position involves driving to excavation sites and working outdoors in all weather conditions. It is subject to Department of Transportation regulations and Summit Utilities’ Drug and Alcohol Policy, including random drug testing.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least three years of experience in field operations.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work safely outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions.
• Learn to use a personal computer, SAP, and mobile data.
• Aptitude for basic mechanical tasks.
• Ability to respond to changing priorities and solve problems logically.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to listen effectively and clarify information as needed.
• Ability to respond to customers courteously and knowledgeably.
• Ability to participate successfully in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

• Gas distribution system experience.
• Safe and accurate operation of tools and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, field sketches, and maps.
• Knowledge of construction practices.
• Proficiency with personal computer software such as Word, Excel, and electronic mail.

Responsibilities

• Locate and mark underground distribution facilities for contractors and others performing excavation work using appropriate locating equipment.
• Perform locates and mark facilities using mechanical locating devices or drawings.
• Drive to excavation sites and be responsible for safety equipment and supplies used in work activities.
• Work with external and internal contractors and internal personnel to reduce facility damage.
• Build relationships with third-party contractors and educate them on safe digging practices.
• Inform the supervisor about district construction projects involving damage or potential danger to the distribution system.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
