Operates an Industrial sized forklift to receive and transfer product, supplies, and materials from various departments to storage areas while meeting customer regulations and specifications. The Operator is responsible for storing and retrieving goods in the storage area of the workplace, rotating stock so oldest materials are used first, and noting and reporting any damaged cartons, crates or containers. They will record items added or removed from inventory, store product using an industrial forklift, and use a handheld scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory. Working from written or verbal instructions, the operator will pick up, move, load, and unload product on or from trailers while meeting department, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines. This role also involves performing minor service of equipment, completing written daily safety inspections, and identifying and reporting noted problems to the supervisor for further inspection and repair. The operator is responsible for changing fuel bottles, refueling forklifts, or troubleshooting repairs as needed. They will maintain the work area, dock, and equipment in a clean and orderly condition, adhere to storage design principles, and recommend improvements. Creating product labels for inventory purposes, reading and understanding lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules are also key responsibilities. The role requires completing various reports daily and entering required information into the computer program efficiently and timely. The operator will use basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air and water hoses, and consolidate partial pallets as directed by the production supervisor. Operators must be able to maneuver forklifts in tight spaces while maintaining a safe work zone for other drivers and team members. Participation as a member of the Team is crucial, including ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies, and coordinating work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members. Attending appropriate team meetings and fostering strong cohesiveness regarding major issues like direction, annual plan, budget, and policy changes is expected. Accepting responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader, and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways to achieve synergy within the larger organization is also part of the role. The operator must be familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies), understand the responsibility to maintain familiarity with these systems and this position’s role in supporting them, including considering the impact of individual actions and communicating concerns and improvement ideas. Other duties as necessary in support of business objectives will be performed.
