Requirements

  • Graduate of a culinary arts program through a vo-tech school.
  • Previous experience as a Cook, preferably in a senior living or hospitality setting.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and dietary requirements for seniors.
  • A passion for cooking and a genuine interest in enhancing the lives of our residents through delicious and nutritious meals.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Flexibility in working various shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree from a culinary school, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Read, understand and follow recipes and production sheets when preparing meals.
  • Adjust recipes for amounts as needed.
  • Prepare all food indicated by the production sheet according to recipe and standards.
  • Ensure correct quality of food is produced and correct portion sizes are served.
  • Food is ready to serve on time.
  • Food is batch cooked when appropriate to ensure best quality.
  • Use appropriate food presentation techniques.
  • Utilize wholesome ingredients.
  • Inspect ingredients and do not allow poor quality food to be produced and served.
  • Taste all food (including altered diets) before serving and adjust as needed.
  • Prepare special and therapeutic diets as needed.
  • Maintain food storage areas properly by labeling, properly sealing and dating all items.
  • Follow safety precautions when using and cleaning equipment.
  • Alert management of any problems, concerns and malfunctions.
  • Adhere to all standards of food safety when handling food products.
  • Use the clean as you go philosophy keeping work station clean throughout the day.
  • Maintain food cost control.
  • Deliver and/or serve food to the appropriate areas.
  • Perform clean-up responsibilities as assigned.
  • Perform quality assurance monitor, i.e. check and record food and refrigeration temperatures.
  • Alert management if temperatures are outside of guidelines.
  • Achieve customer satisfaction with food prepared.
  • Participate in continuing education programs and attend scheduled meetings and in-services.
  • Adhere to department standard of dress.
  • Perform other duties as required.
