About The Position

This is a part-time non-union contract position scheduled to work 15 hours per week. The instructor will provide in-person instruction to a Literacy and CLB 1 class from Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. No classes will be held during the following closure periods: December 21, 2026, to January 1, 2027, and March 15 to March 19, 2027.

Requirements

  • Valid TESL Ontario certification and OCELT designation from TESL Ontario.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience teaching English as a Second Language to adult newcomers.
  • In-depth knowledge of, and experience using the ESL for Adult Literacy Learners (ALL) 2015 and the National LINC Curriculum Guidelines (NLCG) 2025.
  • Proficiency in using Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office applications, Google Classroom, and other online resources to deliver language instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and support learners in developing digital literacy for language training.
  • Proficiency in integrating digital technology, tools and equipment in classroom instruction, such as Chromebooks, digital whiteboard and the Meeting Owl.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methodology to the needs and skill levels of individual learners.
  • Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of adult immigrants and refugees.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching Literacy and CLB 1 language classes.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in providing instruction to both in-person and online student groups concurrently.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have completed PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment) and Avenue.ca Stage 2 training.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver English as a Second Language instruction at the Literacy and CLB 1 level in accordance with LINC program requirements and the PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment) guidelines.
  • Deliver instruction concurrently to in-person and online learners in a HyFlex model when required.
  • Design level-appropriate, PBLA-based module plans and daily lesson plans following the ESL for Adult Literacy Learners (ALL) 2015 and the National LINC Curriculum Guidelines (NLCG) 2025.
  • Develop diverse course materials that integrate real-world tasks, objectives and activities that are aligned with the National LINC Curriculum Guidelines (NLCG).
  • Provide in-person instruction in the classroom while integrating online resources, Avenue.ca, and other digital delivery tools such as digital whiteboard, Chromebooks, Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Conduct ongoing needs assessments, assist learners in setting learning goals and develop lessons that respond to identified needs.
  • Design assessment tasks for ongoing evaluation of learners’ progress based on the NLCG and PBLA guidelines.
  • Provide digital literacy orientation in support of learners’ access to Avenue.ca and other online learning resources.
  • Coach learners in organizing and updating the PBLA e-Portfolio on Avenue.ca as evidence of their learning progress.
  • Prepare Learner Progress Reports and conduct one-on-one interviews to provide feedback on learners’ progress.
  • Maintain attendance records and other documentation as required.
  • Communicate with the LINC Program Administration Team regarding class vacancies, students’ status, proficiency changes and any class issues.
  • Participate in meetings, professional development sessions and agency events, as required.
  • Coordinate guest speaker presentations and organize special events to enhance learners’ participation and cultural experience.
  • Mentor and collaborate with placement students and volunteers to provide assistance to learners, as required.
