About The Position

Ontario Tech University is seeking qualified individuals for a one-year, limited-term Academic Associate position within the Bachelor of Commerce Accounting program. This role involves teaching courses such as Intermediate Financial Accounting II, Intermediate Financial Accounting III, Advanced Financial Accounting, Intermediate Managerial Accounting, and Advanced Managerial Accounting. The university emphasizes technology with a conscience, sustainability, and fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. Candidates are encouraged to integrate these themes into their teaching and research. The position requires demonstrable skills in integrating technology and AI into teaching, preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, and workshops, assessing student work, responding to inquiries, maintaining office hours, invigilating exams, and providing service to the university through committees. Duties may also include supervising teaching assistants or mentoring students in case competitions. The workload distribution is expected to be 70% teaching, 20% service, and 10% other.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree, preferably a PhD or terminal degree, in Accounting, Business, Commerce, Management, Finance, or a closely related field
  • Specialist qualifications in the areas of financial accounting and managerial accounting
  • Relevant industry experience
  • University-level teaching experience in hybrid or online delivery
  • Professional certification such as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies
  • Evidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff, and students

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, and workshops
  • Preparing and marking assignments, tests, and examinations
  • Responding to student inquiries
  • Maintaining regular office hours
  • Invigilating tests and examinations
  • Providing service to the university such as through committees
  • Supervising teaching assistant(s) or mentorship of students in case competitions
  • Integrating technology and AI into teaching and pedagogy
  • Incorporating discussions of ethical considerations, social responsibility, and sustainability into course curricula
  • Conducting research that addresses pressing societal challenges or promotes sustainable business practices
  • Engaging with interdisciplinary initiatives that seek to harness the power of technology for positive social change
  • Promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the finance field
