About The Position

Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning parks and recreation agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational programs, classes, and events as well as facilities, parks and open spaces! Our Cultural Arts Department is home to our outstanding theatre program, which hosts various productions throughout the year. The Lighting Designer is responsible for creating and implementing all lighting for our production, ensuring a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. The Lighting Designer will collaborate with the director and production team to conceptualize and create designs that enhance the characters and storytelling. They will hang and program all necessary instruments and equipment, ensuring a safe environment at all times. The Lighting Designer will occasionally lead a team of community volunteers. They will also effectively manage time to meet deadlines and ensure the lighting is ready for tech week and performances. The Lighting Designer will be expected to attend staff meetings, designer run, and strike.

Requirements

Experience in lighting design for theatrical productions.
Proficiency in the use of ETC systems.
Proficiency in design, plotting, hanging, and focusing techniques.
Strong creative and artistic skills.
Keen understanding of how lights contribute to production.
Dependable industry professional.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work within time and budget constraints.
Ability to adapt designs based on practical considerations.
