About The Position

CMTA, a Legence company, is seeking a Lighting Designer/Engineer Intern/Co-op for Fall 2026 within its Energy Solutions division. CMTA is a rapidly growing engineering firm recognized for its expertise in sustainable, high-performance building engineering. The Energy Solutions division focuses on Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs), which allow for facility upgrades and renovations in a budget-neutral or budget-positive manner by redirecting utility spending towards facility improvements. This co-op program offers an immersive, hands-on experience in the world of ESPCs, providing college students with the opportunity to build competitive industry skills by collaborating with full-time engineers under the supervision of Professional Engineers. The program is designed to develop students into full-time caliber employees and offers challenging projects across all stages of ESPC development, from initial concept to implementation. Lighting co-ops will gain practical experience with commercial lighting systems, with the goal of being able to deliver a full LED lighting upgrade design from scratch and will directly support lighting project managers.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a BSEE, preferably a sophomore (2nd year), or junior (3rd year)
  • CAD experience is helpful but not required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Ability to travel for field work

Responsibilities

  • Assist in all aspects of the project development phase – including site visits, building audits
  • Energy calculations in relation to lighting upgrades
  • Produce detailed construction documents using CAD for LED lighting upgrades
  • Support material procurement and construction management staff during implementation of lighting upgrades
  • Field verify proper installation and implementation of LED lighting upgrades
