About The Position

Northern Star Resources Limited is seeking a Light Vehicle Mechanic for their Pogo operation in Alaska. This role involves maintaining underground and surface light vehicles and associated ancillary equipment to minimize downtime and ensure machine reliability. The position is permanent and offers job security with an extended mine-life. The mechanic will report to the Light Vehicle Leading Hand and will be responsible for diagnostic work, breakdowns, preventative maintenance, and ensuring all work is completed safely and efficiently.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years mechanical experience in light vehicle maintenance; Ford experience required!
  • Excellent fault-finding skill and ability to carry out preventative and breakdown maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and specifications
  • Proficient in prioritising work
  • Ability to problem-solve and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Basic literacy, must be able to read and write in English
  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Office, Pronto or similar CMMS.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake diagnostic, breakdowns, follow-up work, PM's to a high standard of execution, all work completed in a safe and timely manner.
  • Provide technical advice and support to fellow Maintenance Team members.
  • Ensures workmanship through meeting standards and tolerances and testing of equipment prior to handover.
  • Identify correct parts and equipment for all planned and unplanned jobs as necessary.
  • Liaise closely with and maintain effective communication with Leading Hand and other key Stakeholders to organise priority breakdowns.
  • Highlight equipment defects and issues effectively.
  • Rigorous cost management. Avoid rework and the unnecessary use of parts/services.
  • Ensure all safety related activities are completed in accordance with Company policy such as Hazard ID's, pre-start checks, pre-start meetings, and incident reporting as required.
