About The Position

The purpose of this class is to maintain Lift Stations. Responsibilities include learning to schedule and/or perform preventive maintenance, installations, repairs, and reports. This class works within a general outline of work to be performed under general supervision. Weekend, holiday and after-hours work may be required, as well as after-hours response and emergencies. The position involves different levels: Apprentice, Technician 'C', Technician 'B', and Technician 'A', each with increasing responsibilities and experience requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent at time of hire.
  • TTC approved certification within 18 months of hire (preferred at time of hire).
  • Confined Space Entry Certification within 18 months of hire (preferred at time of hire).
  • Obtain a Class C Wastewater Collections Certification within 18 months of hire.
  • Live within a 20-mile radius of the city limits of Leesburg due to on-call rotation requirement.
  • Satisfying completion of one year of college educated or specialized advanced training in Wastewater Collections.
  • 2080 hours of experience in wastewater and/or Lift Stations (for Technician C).
  • Minimum one year of mechanical maintenance experience (for Technician C).
  • Minimum one year of experience in troubleshooting electrical controls type problems and working with electrical components i.e. starters, relays, phase monitors, etc. (for Technician C).
  • Confined Space Entry Competency Training Certificate (for Technician C).
  • Wastewater Collection Certificate C (for Technician C).
  • MOT approved certification (for Technician C).
  • Valid State of Florida driver license and satisfactory driving record (for Technician C).
  • 6,240 hours of experience in wastewater and/or Lift Stations (for Technician B).
  • Minimum three years or more of mechanical maintenance experience (for Technician B).
  • Minimum three years or more experience in troubleshooting electrical controls type problems and working with electrical components i.e. starters, relays, phase monitors, etc. (for Technician B).
  • Confined Space Entry Competency Training (for Technician B).
  • Wastewater Collections Certificate B (for Technician B).
  • Backflow Tester Certification within 18 months of hire (for Technician B).
  • Obtain a valid State of Florida Class B CDL drivers permit with tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire and maintain a satisfactory driving record (for Technician B).
  • 10,400 hours of experience wastewater and/or Lift Stations (for Technician A).
  • Minimum five years or more of mechanical maintenance experience (for Technician A).
  • Minimum five years or more experience in troubleshooting electrical controls type problems and working with electrical components i.e. starters, relays, phase monitors, etc. (for Technician A).
  • Wastewater Collections Certificate A (for Technician A).
  • Backflow Tester Certification (for Technician A).
  • Possess a valid State of Florida Class B CDL driver’s license with tanker endorsement and maintain a satisfactory driving record (for Technician A).
  • Obtain a valid State of Florida Class A CDL drivers permit with tanker endorsement and no restrictions within 6 months of hire and maintain a satisfactory driving record (for Technician A).

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot Lift Station malfunctions and perform repairs.
  • Remove and replace equipment or components; install new equipment or components.
  • Maintain lift station facility and grounds, including mowing grass, cleaning the area of trash and debris, and other maintenance.
  • Evaluate system readings and run time meter readings.
  • Monitor condition of assigned vehicles; perform minor maintenance and service; report major malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Attend division staff meetings to exchange information.
  • Attend in-service training and technical classes to improve technical skills.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on Lift Station piping, systems, and equipment in accordance with prescribed schedules.
  • Verify equipment operation through the SCADA system controller.
  • Assist plant/facility maintenance staff in assigned duties.
  • Maintain logs of maintenance actions and turn in completed work orders.
  • Guide and assist less experienced workers.
  • Close work orders using CMMS program (Infor).
  • Perform routine office tasks, such as typing, filing, faxing, phoning, and copying.
  • Review timesheets for correct input.
  • Set up performance plans as required.
  • Monitor and complete employee evaluations as required.
  • Develop and implement new procedures as necessary.
