The City of Steamboat Springs is hiring a Lift Mechanic-Ski/Snow to join their team!

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school diploma or GED equivalent plus some specialized training in mechanics, maintenance management, or a closely related field, including lift maintenance coursework or certifications, or One (1) years of related experience, or Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of ski lift and snowmaking system mechanics and Colorado State Tramway licensing requirements.
  • Basic knowledge of ski lift and snowmaking system electrical maintenance, ability to read electrical, hydraulic and mechanical schematics.
  • Experience with low voltage control systems and safeties.
  • Familiarity with welding, price trends and grades or quality of materials and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to ski lift, snowmaking system, high/low voltage electrical maintenance, and other municipal maintenance and repair activities.
  • Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in modern equipment maintenance.
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective preventive maintenance programs, policies and procedures; Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to be self-directed and perform duties of the job and schedule tasks to meet deadlines; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and the public.
  • Valid State of Colorado Drivers License and ability to maintain one.
  • The Mechanic is required to provide their own tool set and toolbox to accomplish required repair and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Performs semi-skilled, skilled, and administrative work in maintaining the ski lifts, snowmaking system and mechanical/electrical/communication equipment of the department.
  • Serves as an ambassador of the City of Steamboat Springs and upholds City values of Service, Teamwork, Integrity, Well-being, Respect and Compassion, while always espousing safety.
  • Assists the Lead Mechanic in preventive maintenance schedules for all ski lifts, snowmaking systems and mechanical/electrical equipment not on Public Works maintenance schedule.
  • Operates a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, and air-driven tools.
  • Conducts daily, weekly, monthly and annual ski lift inspections to manufacturer and tramway standards
  • Tests, services, troubleshoots and repairs all ski lifts, snowmaking systems, pumps, snowmaking additive injection system, winches, electric motors, relays, and a variety of other mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Inspects, adjusts and replaces necessary units and related parts in the performance of repair and maintenance work.
  • Maintains a familiarity of Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board policies and procedures related to lift maintenance, operations, and follows associated protocols.
  • Evaluates status of ski lifts, snowmaking systems, mechanical and electrical equipment and performs or schedules needed repairs.
  • Conducts various analyses and inspections of ski lifts, snowmaking systems and mechanical/electrical systems to determine the cost-effective means of maintenance, repair or replacement.
  • Assists in purchasing equipment, parts, and supplies used for ski lift, ski area, snowmaking system and mechanical system maintenance.
  • Provides emergency field assistance to disabled equipment as needed and appropriate.
  • Maintains records, prepares reports and other specialized maintenance records of equipment and mechanical equipment, including costs associated with snow gun and lift maintenance.
  • May be on-call, stand by and/or required to work weekends during peak equipment use times.
  • Locates underground utilities in the Howelsen Park Complex.
  • Assists in the preparation of bid specifications for ski area supplies and mechanical/electrical equipment.
  • Work with lift engineers and outside contractors to assess/install upgrades/alterations to ski lifts.
  • Assists with the inspection of fire extinguishers located at the Howelsen Park Complex.
  • Provides extra power with transformers at the Howelsen Complex for special events, the Summer Concert Series, and other events requiring additional power.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Rodeo Grounds for Summer Rodeos.
  • Climbs light towers and replaces light bulbs on commercial lighting systems at Howelsen Ski/ Rodeo facilities.
  • Maintains inventory of spare parts for all lifts, snow guns, lightbulbs, etc. to efficiently perform maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Assists Parks Mechanic in their absence or as necessary.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned.
  • May serve as a member of various employee committees.
