Fish Creek Provincial Park, located in Calgary, is one of the largest urban protected areas in Canada and is enjoyed by millions of visitors annually. The park is home to the Sikome Aquatic Facility, a popular outdoor recreation swimming area that includes a large artificial lake with treated water, sand beach, a small concession and beach retail shop. A dedicated team of Safety Ambassadors and Visitor Service Attendants provide outstanding service to Sikome visitors. For summer 2026, we are seeking individuals who have a passion for people and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment to join our team in our Sikome Aquatic Facility. Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Must be 18 years of age on or before June 15.
  • National Lifeguard-Pool or National Lifeguard-Waterfront Certification (current within two years).
  • Prior to hire, recognized current intermediate Standard First Aid and CPR Level “C”/AED Certificate or CPR-HCP/AED (current certification within 1 year) will be needed.
  • Prior to hire, proof of WHMIS training completion will be required.
  • High School Diploma and minimum of 12 months (2000 hours) of supervisory experience with preference for supervisory experience in an aquatic environment.
  • Alberta Class 5 (Full) Driver’s License or equivalent.
  • Final Candidates will be required to provide a standard 3-year Driver’s Abstract prior to commencement.
  • Must be 18 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience - Minimum of 12 months (2000 hours) lifeguard experience with preference for waterfront experience.
  • Preferred experience - Minimum of 2 years (4000 hours) lifeguard experience with preference for waterfront lifeguard experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills and comfort level in dealing with difficult customer interactions or complaints.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills and comfort dealing with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a busy facility type environment and remain composed and calm in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Basic knowledge of Fish Creek Provincial Park amenities.
  • Good listening and conflict resolution skills.
  • Fluent in languages other than English.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safety supervision and education to visitors by monitoring water and waterfront on foot, from elevated platforms and on paddleboards.
  • Perform water rescues, respond to emergency situations and administer First Aid as required.
  • Monitor visitor activity within fence lines and washrooms to ensure compliance with conditions of use and safety requirements.
  • Provide crowd control when it is necessary to clear the facility as a result of severe weather events, emergencies, locating lost children, etc.
  • Perform daily opening and closing duties which include but are not limited to setting up and tearing down work areas, securing and cleaning equipment, restocking supplies, clearing the facility of patrons, locking facility gates, showers and bathrooms.
  • Cover gate and admissions shifts if required.
  • Performing light maintenance and janitorial duties is required. This includes but is not limited to daily cleaning staff bathrooms and work areas, daily checks and tidying of public washrooms, sweeping deck areas, picking up garbage and debris on the beach.
  • Perform all Lifeguard (Safety Ambassador) duties listed above.
  • Working weekly scheduled shifts in the Lifeguard rotation is required.
  • Perform administrative and supervisory duties which include but are not limited to: Prepare facility for seasonal opening. Assist with hiring, staff orientations, training and competency evaluations. Manage day to day workflow and priorities. Daily supervision of Safety Ambassadors in all aspects of job performance and operational requirements including staff scheduling, performance coaching, mentoring and conducting performance reviews Assisting staff with access to required systems. Provide supervision coverage to Visitor Service Attendants in absence of a Visitor Service Attendant Crew Lead. Perform required Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) requirements such as completion of monthly facility and vehicle inspections, update safe work procedures, hazard assessments and emergency procedures, staff training, incident reporting, WCB reporting, etc. Assist facility staff with visitor complaint/conflict resolution. Order, pickup and maintain inventory for required equipment, print materials, and first aid supplies. Enter and maintain employee records (training, performance, attendance records, payroll information etc.) into appropriate systems. Maintain facility statistics and daily reports. Cover breaks and vacant shifts as required. Prepare facility for seasonal closing. Assist supervisor with other tasks as assigned.
