About The Position

Queens College is seeking responsible, attentive lifeguards to oversee pool activities in a collegiate aquatics setting. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of all patrons during facility rentals, free hour swim, and other scheduled aquatic programs. The lifeguard will maintain constant surveillance of the pool area, enforce all safety rules and facility policies, and respond promptly and effectively to emergencies.

Requirements

Current lifeguarding certification
Current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification
Current First Aid certification
Strong observational skills
Sound judgment
Ability to remain calm and decisive in emergency situations
Dependable
Punctual
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by the rental and programming schedule
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
Ability to maintain focused attention
Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
High School Diploma
1 year of college experience

Nice To Haves

Prior experience working in a collegiate, municipal, or high-traffic aquatic facility is preferred.

Responsibilities

Oversee daily pool operations during assigned shifts, including monitoring swimmers, supervising rental groups, and supporting free swim periods for students and community members.
Maintain a professional presence on deck, proactively identifying potential hazards, and ensuring that all participants follow established safety guidelines.
Assist with opening and closing procedures.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pool deck and equipment areas.
Communicate clearly with supervisors, event coordinators, and facility staff to ensure smooth operations during rentals and special events.
Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area.
Enforce all safety rules and facility policies.
Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies.
Provide courteous and professional customer service to all patrons.
