About The Position

The Lifeguard Staff-OPS position is part of the Recreation & Wellness department at Osprey Cliff-OPS. This role is integral to the unit, emphasizing teamwork and collaboration to achieve collective goals. The lifeguard is expected to work closely with colleagues and assist in other capacities as needed to ensure the overall success of objectives. This position requires a background check and potentially a credit check. The incumbent is designated as a "Responsible Employee" and must report allegations of sexual misconduct, sexual violence, and child sexual abuse to the University's Title IX Administrator or a divisional Title IX Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Must possess current certification in one of the following: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (or equivalent); or American Red Cross Community First Aid and Training (or equivalent); or American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer (or equivalent).
  • Must be able to swim 150 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing (front crawl, breaststroke, or combination; no back or side swimming).
  • Must be able to tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs with hands under armpits.
  • Must be able to complete an additional 50 yards of front crawl/breaststroke.
  • Must be able to complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds: starting in the water, swim 20 yards (goggles not allowed), surface dive 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface for a breath (no underwater swimming).
  • Must be able to exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce all facility rules, policies, and regulations.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to incidents and emergencies.
  • Provide proper emergency care (first aid/ resuscitation/ CPR/AED) when necessary.
  • Identify hazardous conditions and eliminate or minimize them.
  • Report unsafe/unsatisfactory conditions and behaviors to the supervisor.
  • Complete all required records and reports.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and organized pool area.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Act in a professional manner at all times.
  • Provide quality customer service.
  • Adhere to all employee policies, rules, and regulations as outlined in the UNF Recreation and Wellness Lifeguard Manual.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
