About The Position

The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario is seeking Lifeguards to join their team for a Full-time Summer Contract position at the Rotary Camp Tillicum location in North Bay. This role, under the leadership of various supervisors, involves performing lifeguard duties according to National Lifesaving Society (NLS) standards, delivering quality programming, and ensuring the safety of staff and participants in the swim area. The position starts on June 20, 2026, with a pay rate starting at $18.50/hour for up to 40 hours per week.

Requirements

• National Lifeguard certification (NL) in good standing
• Basic understanding of waterfront operations
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong computer skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Physically fit
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR C
• Current and satisfactory Police Record with Vulnerable Sector Check

Nice To Haves

• National Lifeguard (Waterfront) certification

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety of staff and campers during all waterfront activities (including swimming, canoeing, kayaking, etc.)
• Provide active supervision and enforce all waterfront safety procedures at all times
• Respond promptly and effectively to first aid situations and emergencies
• Inspect and maintain first aid and rescue equipment to ensure it is in safe working condition
• Monitor waterfront conditions (weather, water quality, visibility) and adjust supervision as needed
• Complete accurate incident reports for submission to the camp leadership team
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe beach and waterfront area throughout the day and at closing
• Support and actively participate in camp programming as required
• Perform other duties as assigned to support overall camp operations
• Incorporate YMCA “Y Way” standards into all interactions and responsibilities
• Build positive relationships with members and guests, and promote the YMCA as a charitable organization
