About The Position

The Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining a safe aquatic environment and preventing injuries or emergencies in and around the pool. Lifeguards actively monitor pool activity, enforce safety rules, respond to emergencies, assist patrons, and maintain the cleanliness and readiness of the aquatic area.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Current nationally recognized Lifeguard Certification required.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Knowledge of facility safety procedures and operational protocols, or ability to learn upon hire.
  • Good communication skills; able to make sound decisions in the moment.
  • Dependable and able to consistently arrive prepared and on time for scheduled shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain continuous and active surveillance of the pool and aquatic area; remain attentive and refrain from unnecessary socializing or other distractions while guarding.
  • Enforce Health & Fitness Center policies, pool rules, safety procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements in a professional and consistent manner.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to injuries, incidents, emergencies, and unsafe conditions, including performing rescues, CPR/AED, and First Aid within the scope of current certification.
  • Open and/or close the pool area as assigned and ensure the pool is never left unattended while open.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly pool environment, including pool deck and aquatic equipment.
  • Educate patrons regarding pool rules, safety expectations, schedules, and appropriate use of the aquatic facility.
  • Complete required attendance records, incident reports, safety documentation, and other aquatic records.
  • Conduct routine checks of emergency equipment, pool equipment, and aquatic areas and report concerns to the Shift Supervisor or Operations Manager.
  • Attend and participate in required in-service training, safety drills, and staff meetings.
  • Assist with aquatic programs, classes, events, and facility needs when scheduled and appropriately qualified.
  • Provide a welcoming and professional environment for students, employees, members, guests, and community users.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
