About The Position

Lifeguards work within the Activities Team to support the camp's mission by ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants during aquatic activities. They are responsible for delivering safe, enjoyable, and age-appropriate swim programs that cater to campers' abilities. Lifeguards also play a key role in maintaining the smooth operation of pool or waterfront facilities, overseeing water safety protocols, and ensuring a high-quality, secure experience for all campers. The Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles Camp Lakota is a state of the art, recently updated residential camp. Located just 90 miles from downtown Los Angeles, this premier camp site will host a full summer camp season. The camp will focus on providing a stand-out girl-led experience for campers of all ages and communities across our 6,272 square mile footprint. The camp offers a variety of specialty activities including a high ropes challenge course, horseback riding, swimming, and archery.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must hold Red Cross Lifeguard certifications or be willing to obtain by the start of camp. Training will be available.
  • Ability to interact with all age levels.
  • Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR prior to first day of work.
  • Must submit health history form prior to first day of work.
  • Must be committed to work the entire camp season and attend pre-camp training.
  • Comply with state-mandated reporter training
  • Attend GSGLA signature events and/or other activities as assigned
  • Must successfully complete a Live Scan and background check

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a pool program that is appropriate for the age and ability of the campers under the direction of the Head Lifeguard and the Activities Manager and Evaluate abilities of campers and staff.
  • Deliver progressive and varied activities that use resources efficiently.
  • Evaluate the success of the activity.
  • Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures.
  • Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures of our GSGLA policies.
  • Assist counselors with the development of activity kits for use by units and for special events.
  • Ensure that all that enter Camp Lakota’s swimming pool, are swim tested
  • Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in activity area.
  • Maintain and clean activity equipment and activity area, keeping it free of hazards and debris.
  • Ensure that equipment and supplies are secure.
  • Conduct a daily check of the area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Set a good example to campers and others regarding general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.
  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
  • Attending and preparing for daily meetings, on time.
  • Assist where needed on camper arrival and departure days.
  • Be a village liaison, providing check in/out support, conduct daily visits to villages and provide outstanding customer service to campers and their families.
  • Other duties as assigned.
