About The Position

The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring compliance with pool rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. This role involves monitoring the work environment and safety equipment to ensure the safety of employees and the public. The Lifeguard observes and oversees swimmers, enforces pool rules, scans the water, takes preventive safety actions, rescues distressed swimmers, and provides emergency first aid and CPR. Additionally, the Lifeguard maintains the swimming pool and facility, assists with opening the pool, cleans various areas, stocks supplies, and treats the pool with chemicals to maintain water balance. Customer service is also a key function, involving providing information and responding to inquiries and complaints. This position may also involve teaching swimming lessons.

Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid and current American Red Cross lifeguard certification.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid and current American Red Cross CPR certification.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid and current First Aid for the Professional Rescuer certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a valid and current Water Safety Instruction certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with pool rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to established safety procedures.

  • Observes and oversees the activities of swimmers.
  • Enforces pool rules and maintains discipline at facility.
  • Scans the water and takes preventive safety actions.
  • Rescues distressed swimmers.
  • Provides emergency first aid and CPR.
  • Performs other emergency life saving services as needed.
  • Maintains swimming pool and facility.
  • Assists with opening pool facility.
  • Cleans restrooms, locker rooms, walkways, pool deck, and pool furniture.
  • Stocks paper goods.
  • Records maintenance documentation.
  • Treats pool regularly with correct amount of chemicals to maintain appropriate chemical balance of pool water.
  • Performs customer service functions.
  • Provides information and answers questions regarding pool policies, procedures, programs, fees and other issues.
  • Responds to questions and complaints.
  • May require teaching swimming lessons.
