About The Position

The Fresh Air Fund is hiring hourly Lifeguards for its six summer camps in the Hudson Valley, NY. Lifeguards are essential members of the waterfront staff, responsible for overseeing all swim and boating activities, teaching swim lessons, and ensuring the safety of campers. This is a seasonal, hourly, at-will position. The role generally operates between 9 am and 9 pm, with specific hours determined by the organization's needs and employee availability. While living on-site is not required, communal housing may be available. The season runs from the present until August 15, 2026.

Requirements

Currently valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid certification.
Strong swimming ability.
At least 18 years old.
A high school diploma.
At least one year of experience in a similar role.
Proof of MMR vaccination or immunity required.
Ability to participate in a skill verification proving capability as a waterfront lifeguard.

Nice To Haves

Some college experience is preferred.
A passion for working with children.

Responsibilities

Supervise free swim, boating activities, and special events at the camp waterfront.
Instruct swim lessons and boating classes.
Maintain waterfront, boating, and fishing facilities in compliance with safety regulations.
Participate in daily fitness activities such as swimming, boating, and rescue practice.
Follow emergency procedures and assist in managing buddy systems and checks.
Aid in submitting required evaluations and records to the Waterfront Director.
