About The Position

The Lead Lifeguard is responsible for the health and safety of members and guests in attendance at the Aquatic facility, carry out rescues as required, and are also responsible for the cleanliness of the aquatic facility. They also guide and mentor the lifeguard and pool attendant teams. The Kroc Center Hawaii Lead Lifeguard will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

Requirements

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification
  • At least 3 years of lifeguard experience or a minimum of 1,500 work hours as a lifeguard at Kroc Center Hawaii.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and/or education in lieu of work experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Provide lifeguarding services, including rescuing swimmers in distress.
  • Respond to emergencies and administer CPR/First Aid as trained.
  • Complete and submit accident/incident and PTM reports.
  • Assist with supervising and coaching lifeguards and pool attendants; support swim programs as needed.
  • Help schedule lifeguards to ensure adequate pool coverage during operating hours.
  • Review time exceptions, absences, and vacation requests with the Aquatics Manager and Coordinator.
  • Coordinate and conduct in-service training to ensure lifeguards maintain competence in first aid, CPR, and water rescue techniques.
  • Support the Aquatics Manager in overseeing aquatics programs and managing swimming events.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and create a positive guest experience through professional and courteous behavior.
  • Assist with maintaining cleanliness of pool areas, locker rooms, and related facilities (e.g., scrubbing, washing, litter removal).
  • Enforce pool rules and regulations; caution swimmers about unsafe practices and maintain order in and around the pool.
  • Follow established emergency action plans and procedures during emergencies.
  • Maintain swimming and rescue skills through conditioning swims and participation in all required training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Handle and record lost property according to procedures.
  • Observe, document, and report safety issues to supervisors.
  • Test and record water quality (chlorine and pH levels) as needed.
  • Ensure emergency equipment (rescue tubes, backboards, signage) is available and in good condition; report any damage or malfunction to the Aquatics Manager.
  • Assist with opening and closing aquatic facilities and perform roaming duties as required.
  • Support early childhood swim education programs and other community swim classes.
  • Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of staff, guests, and the public.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Maintain a neat, professional appearance.
  • Adhere to The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Uphold the Kroc Center Hawaii Code of Ethics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
