About The Position

The Lifeguard is responsible for using sound professional judgement and best practices to ensure the safety of everyone in the pool area. Breckenridge Village is a caring, faith-based residential community for adults with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities. Located on a tranquil 80-acre campus just west of Tyler, Texas, Breckenridge Village offers exceptional residential and day enrichment programs to meet the needs of those entrusted to our care. Breckenridge Village is dedicated to serving a group of amazing people in a warm, family-like setting that seeks to empower each resident as he or she develops spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially in a safe and loving environment.

Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and properly certified as a lifeguard.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification, CPR/First Aid, Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation, Disaster/Emergency Preparedness, Trauma Informed Care
  • Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
  • Must pass all pre-employment background checks including Criminal History, Employee Misconduct, Nurse’s Aide Registry, driving check and pass annual background checks.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screen throughout employment.
  • Knows the indicators of abuse, neglect, and exploitation, and appropriate reporting and documentation procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to: Be appropriately firm, flexible, and patient with individuals.
  • Praise and reward appropriate behaviors and redirect inappropriate behaviors.
  • Employ preventative and de-escalation techniques in crisis intervention.
  • Show appreciation and appropriate affection consistent with professional boundaries to individuals without the gesture being misinterpreted.
  • Communicate in both written and oral communication.
  • Knows normal patterns of human growth and development.
  • Function compatibly and participate constructively in a team environment and maintain emotional control and professional composure.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize tasks to work efficiently without intensive supervision.
  • Teaching and mentoring individuals.
  • Administer first aid and CPR if necessary.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of all Campus Life Program, Residential and Day Program policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and maintain Lifeguard certification.
  • Assist with maintaining pool chemicals as well as setting up and taking down before and after pool usage.
  • Conduct swim assessments on all residents/community participants who would like to participate in pool activities.
  • Teach pool safety.
  • Ensure the safety of everyone, both in the pool and in the surrounding area, while keeping a careful watch over all pool activities.
  • Consistently monitor, identify, and manage any potential dangers, including weather.
  • Administers first aid in the event of injury; rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning; administers CPR and/or artificial respiration if necessary.
  • Work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed or requested by Day Program Coordinator.
  • Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards that are applicable to this position.
  • Implement BVT safety protocols including evacuating with residents/community participants and other staff in case of an emergency.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the service population and program operations.
  • Maintain Breckenridge Village ethical standards of conduct outlined in the employee handbook including demonstrating respect for agency staff, the service population, and community members and always complying with required dress code.
  • Perform other job duties assigned by Campus Life Director and/or Campus Life Coordinator.
