Requirements

  • Must be a NYS Certified Lifeguard
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required
  • Ability to handle difficult or emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  • Knowledge of pool safety practices, rules, and regulations.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to provide the UMH standard of service
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently to complete job duties
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Continually monitor swimmers for signs of distress, fatigue, or unsafe behaviors.
  • Perform water rescues and administer first aid, CPR, or other lifesaving techniques if necessary, while awaiting professional medical assistance.
  • Coordinate with emergency services and assist as directed during critical situations.
  • Enforce pool rules such as restrictions on diving, running, horseplay, and other unsafe activities to prevent accidents, injuries, and unsafe behaviors.
  • Check pool passes
  • Respond to and document any rule violations or incidents according to established procedures.
  • Observe and respond to any potential hazards or unsafe conditions, taking appropriate action to mitigate risks.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain lifeguard equipment, such as rescue tubes, buoys, and first aid kits. Report any equipment malfunctions or deficiencies to supervisors for repairs or replacements
  • Greet and interact with pool visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment, promoting respect and consideration among pool users.
  • Address visitor inquiries, concerns, or complaints promptly and courteously.
  • Assist with routine pool maintenance tasks, such as monitoring water quality, temperature, and chemical levels.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, damage, or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Keep the pool area clean and organized.
  • The position includes all other responsibilities that may be necessary to fulfill the duties associated with the position or as may be assigned
