About The Position

The Lifeguard assists with supervising children participating in activities at the RJKCCC, including education, recreation, arts and crafts, and physical education. The role helps ensure children’s health and safety, leads and motivates participants in recreational activities, and responds appropriately to emergencies.

Work is scheduled Monday through Saturday for 19 hours per week. Duties involve frequently alternating between sitting, standing, and walking, in indoor and outdoor recreational environments that may involve changing weather or exposure to noise, dust, and dirt.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED, and six months of experience working with children in educational, fitness, arts, crafts, or other activities in a similar environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Knowledge of First Aid and CPR principles and practices.
• Ability to ensure children’s safety and monitor their activities.
• Knowledge of standard rules and techniques of athletic sports such as baseball, basketball, and football.
• Ability to build effective and positive relationships with people of all ages.
• Ability to lead and motivate people in recreational activities.
• Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies.
• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• CPR and First Aid Certification.
• Infant/Child CPR Certification.
