About The Position

The City of Ojai is hiring lifeguards for its aquatics team. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, supporting community health and wellness, and being part of a positive team. The City offers paid training for necessary certifications, making it suitable for both new and experienced lifeguards. The Lifeguard ensures the safe use of the pool and aquatic facility, supervises patrons, enforces rules, and responds to emergencies. Responsibilities include administering first aid and CPR, performing lifesaving activities, maintaining the facility and equipment, and keeping accurate records.

Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age at time of appointment.
Work Permit if still enrolled in high school
American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certificate
Current CPR/AED and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer

Responsibilities

Observes and assesses swimmers in the pool area from an assigned station to identify and prevent unsafe conditions or potential hazards.
Enforces facility rules regarding use of the pool, restrooms, and general public area.
Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning; administers first aid and emergency care when needed.
Performs general pool and facility maintenance each day, including daily opening and closing procedures of the facility.
Determines and records chlorine and pH value of water during daily activities; monitors and records water temperatures.
Prepare and maintain records and reports.
Performs other duties as assigned.
