About The Position

The Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions at the aquatic facility, preventing accidents, and enforcing pool rules. This role involves supervising the safe use of all equipment, recording daily attendance, upholding facility policies, and ensuring proper handling of emergencies. The lifeguard must also perform daily maintenance tasks, follow emergency action plans, and maintain a professional appearance and punctuality. The position requires constant, undivided attention to ensure the safety of up to 200 participants.

Requirements

Two years of High School required.
Six-month related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Responsible for maintaining a consistent, regular good attendance record.
Lifeguard Certification
CPR Certification for professional rescuer
Hepatitis B vaccination required.
First Aid and Bloodbourne Pathogens training.
Ability to pass Lifeguarding skill requirements.
Requires the ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Requires medium physical effort such as frequent setting up of heavy equipment, frequently working in uncomfortable positions, or occasionally lifting and carrying of heavy loads.
Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, use of hands to finger, handle, or feel, reaching with hands and arms, and talking or hearing.
Requires occasional climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Constant, undivided attention must be demonstrated at all times.

Responsibilities

Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool with emphasis on the prevention of accidents.
Maintain order and enforce pool rules.
Provide and supervise the safe use of all equipment.
Record daily attendance.
Uphold all Camas Center policies.
Turn in all accident reports to supervisor.
Membership retention.
Check in and out on timecard.
Hose and bucket deck each evening after closing.
Check pool chemicals and record. Notify supervisor of unacceptable levels.
Clean office each evening after closing. Equipment stored in proper place.
Inform supervisor of any needed repairs.
General cleaning and housekeeping each day.
Follow the emergency action plan as described in the emergency procedure guide.
Follow the chain of command in all emergencies.
Inspect and keep pool area, first aid and life-saving equipment in readiness at all times.
Uphold dress code.
Arrive 10 – 15 minutes before scheduled time.
Uphold Camas Center code of conduct.
Attend all in-service training programs and staff meetings.
Do related work as requested by supervisor.
